GT380 Carb Slide Height

Morning All,

I just re-installed the carbs on my 1974 GT380. I set the float heights per spec. My question is about the slide heights. I bench-set them using the old "paperclip" trick so that each slide is just barely open/raised. After install, with the throttle cables installed, the slide height naturally rises to maybe 1/4" open when looking in through the intakes.

Question is, will this be the correct height (at least initially) to get it running, or do they have to be lowered using the slide adjustment rod/nuts on each carb? I Can't seem to find that spec in any of the material I have.

Thanks,

Mike

OldJapaneseBikes has lots of useful stuff on his website including GT380 manuals & a separate carb manual.

Sounds like the cables are not adjusted to have free play. The slides should close completely. Check the individual carb cable adjusters and main cable adjustment at the twist grip.

With the carbs mounted and the throttle cables attached and adjusted, this is exactly what I'm seeing with the slides. I'm sure fine-tuning will be needed but this looks like its close enough to get me running, based on the manual.

Thoughts?

Thanks guys!

Mike
