GT550 Oil Pump Setting.

My GT550 seems fairly smokey and uses quite a bit of oil, (I think). The oil pump is set as Mr Suzuki requires, so perhaps I'm doing something wrong. When the bike is running you can set the oil pump arm "kick" every time the pump injects oil, and at about 1200 rpm the arm kicks about 30 times a minute. Has any other sad soul like me counted the kicks, and if so what was the result.

I average 1000 miles per liter of injector oil.
