Clutch Cable Routing

Post by tricky1962 »

I know, I know - newbie question etc.

But I have just broken my third cable in 15 000 miles.

The first two were pattern cables and went at the nipples.

The third was twice the price OEM (allegedly), routed through the hole in the left hand side top rail of the frame under the tank. It lasted 9000 miles and snapped in the middle.

Do you lot route them any other way?

I was thinking of going under the tank on the right hand side, but worried about fouling the carbs.

I have to say, the pull (tension, friction, effort etc) on the lever has never been particularly high and the levers and linkages are all standard

Makes me wonder if the hole in the lever is slightly too small or the cable slot is not perfectly aligned leading to excess stress at the nipple.
