Can I use separate carbs on a newer model 76 bike?

Can some one also tell me if the floats are the same on the 380 and 550 or are they completely different

On later models with linked carbs, the fuel tap was moved as it was in the way of the carbs, so I would think you need the correct tank too. The fuel tap is different as well, with three outlets. You'll need a choke lever to mount on the handlebars, and both sets of cables, 1-3 for chokes and 1-4 for carbs. The air filters housings were changed too. IIRC the carb length may be slightly different. Not a straightforward or cheap conversion.
Late refurbed carbs are available from bluesmokebaz on ebay or Kettleclinic.co.uk.
Lots of parts on the carbs 380/550 are same, but jets and choke sizes are different. 550 carbs work well on a 380.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.
