Just to throw in a thought - I'm at work, eating lunch, so not near my bike at the moment.
Is the engine serial number stamped on the top or bottom case half. It could perhaps be a real bitsa, with the original 1970 case bottom and a later model engine top half?
Sure would be strange, but we all have seen stranger...

Re: jetting and air filter questions for a race bike
The VIN is stamped in the bottom half of the motor and the 1400cc is stamped in the top half. Is it possible to combine a top and bottom from different years?!?!?

As Jim said jetsrus, fast service, good selection of genuine parts and reasonable shipping cost.

I don't want to derail Petermbooth's thread so I posted a similar question over on my Lyster build thread. If I could get TZ, ConnerVT, Jimroid, OJB or Vintageman to weigh in on this thread it would be greatly appreciated.

The short answer is 'yes', but generally I'd try to avoid doing so unless there were no other choice. You may be able to check if the cases are a pair - Suzuki normally punched them in the area of the drive sprocket. This photo shows a GT750 case, but I suspect the T500 was done similarly. I may be able to confirm that later this week.petermbooth wrote:The VIN is stamped in the bottom half of the motor and the 1400cc is stamped in the top half. And this is (not very clean I realise) GT500 case.
