GS parts that fit on a GT

So while hunting for a new front fender for my GT and being appalled at the prices of anything that doesn't look like a boat ankor, I noticed that the fender on my 78 GS750 looks a lot like the one on the 77 GT. So a quick eBay search shows that the GS fender is much easier to find in good condition for cheap than the GT one.

Does the GS fender bolt onto the GT??? I could pull the one off my GS and find out, but am hoping someone here has done it before and can tell me.

If there are any other parts that are the same that info would be useful as I set h for bits as well.

-thanks

There are two types of fenders for that 77-78 GS750, you want to locate the one with flat side sections between the fork legs. So you know, the GS550 fender also fits and yes you can pick them up for pittance and get them rechromed.
This one I bought from Ebay had some damage to the top front edge which I repaired and then had it rechromed. Still cheaper than trying to find an NOS one.

The issue for me hasn't been getting a fender, its the chroming part. The cost where I am is huge for any chrome work. There is a spray chrome shop near me that I may try out for a few items, but I would like the front fender at least to be real chrome since it take a beating with rocks...

Is the GS fender with the non flat slides from a later year? and is it obvious when looking at them? Just want to be sure that if I order one based on pictures on ebay it will fit.

-thanks again :)

Its a system that basically (from what I understand) uses the same process as silvering mirrors to coat\paint your part. Then it is cleared over top of for durability.

From what I've read there were early issues with the clear coat, but these seem to have been resolved. It's a water based process so its more environmentally friendly and therefore cheaper as well...

For some reason the fenders with the scalloped sides are a tad wider so its possibly for later GS750s of the 1980s. Basically the section by where it mounts to the forks is not flat like the one in the photo I showed. The scalloped sections are in the side sections and go up to the top edges of the fender which is a dead visual giveaway. Bear in mind around 1980 some of the bikes had leading axle forks so the bolts will be offset in the fender as well compared to the GTs
Spray chrome may be ok but its not durable like good old triple chrome plate and prep is everything on that as it needs a 100% smooth surface.
On other parts, the indicators are the same as well between the B model GT and the early GS750s. The tail lamp lens and back housings are also shared with the B model GT and early GS750 and 425. NLA so you will have to buy a used one, the lenses are still available though.
You may have to send the fender to Alberta to get it rechromed.

I agree, spray chrome will only be as durable as the clear coat thats sprayed over it. Still, if it gets me on the road with collector plates this year I'll give it a go. I actually considering buying the chemicals and giving to a go myself.

Thanks for the infer Allen, its much appreciated.. The build continues.
