'66 Suzuki S32 restoration finished

Post by Premixer63 »

The bike was finished in June of this year and I dearly wanted to show her to you then, but for some reason I couldn't register with this website until now.
Well, after 18 months of a meticulous ground up restoration I made an almost-fatal mistake by hooking up the engine and starter solenoid grounds BACKWARDS. When i started it for the first time she caught fire and melted half the wire harness, but did no other major damage. Funny enough I had a small gasoline leak from the carbs but luckily it did not catch - yes I dodged a major bullet! Anyway I replaced the wire harness and starter solenoid and have been smoking it ever since!

That is so nice- great job! Love all of the styling cues from bikes of that era. Enjoy!

Nice bike Wavehog! I decided against polishing the engine cases after doing so with my last S32 resto, my goal was to make it as maintenance free as I could. My next goal is to finish restoring the Baci saddlebags that it came with. After that I may commence with the rechroming, unless something else comes along like that T500 Cobra that I've been dreaming of

There seems to be more of the 60s Suzukis appearing lately. Excellent news, they look very nice.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

I just acquired a ‘66 s32 and am looking for guidance. These restorations pictured here are pretty inspiring. My bike is apart.

My first obstacle I have come upon is finding new forms seals. I’m getting ready to tear into the forks but want to make sure I can get seals. Anyone have a source?

If you can't get an OEM seal then get teh old ones out and measure them and of course the fork diameter.. they may even have markings on so you can match up with a generic 'shaft' seal

The online parts manuals don’t go back to 1966.
Partzilla has online parts manual for the 1968 S32-2: https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/suzuk ... ering-lock

S32-2 parts & owners manuals are here: https://www.oldjapanesebikes.com/mraxl_ ... /index.php

I have no insight into how many variations there were in the various model years of the S32.
Paul Miller has 1963-1968 parts & service manual listed on eBay for $50. That is likely your best bet on figuring out what parts you need.

Took a quick look at the two online sources I listed. Looks like your fork oil seal is still available from Suzuki.

Helpfully, that partzilla link also gives the size!

Can someone tell me the shift pattern on these? I know it’s four speed but is neutral down and all four gears up?

Looks great. Love the old enclosed chain-guards on these bikes. Wish they had fitted them to later bikes like my GT380.
Did the copper write you a ticket? Or is that you in your work clothes?
