Either get a bigger and more modern bike or get her on the pillion. IMO a 250 hasn't the mass or torque to haul a sidecar. Think of the effect on a 40 year old clutch & transmission as well.

On the other hand, many of the former east europe manufacturers had this setup with much less power though. Jawa 350 Blue style 22Bph, and the MZ range also did have sidecar option for as low as 250 cc again with 17BHP but std transmission... But of course a T500 would be better suited.

Cheers

I bet the Nimbus has a sturdier frame than a GT250. Don't sidecars have a habit of reshaping frames? Although I suppose you could beef it up somehow.

yes, I hear the can be a little squirrely...maybe I need to find a lighter weight sidecar...it's just a big dream right now....I've never hear of sidecars doing that to frames but I never really looked for that type of info either....something to chew on

I don't see why you couldn't do it. Choose one of the lightweight chairs that are available, and dont alter the motor apart from maybe fitting stronger clutch springs.
I fitted a Watsonian Monza to my T500 back in 1978 while living in London, then took the outfit on tour across Europe. I was silly enough to do it with a bike fitted with expansion chambers, clip ons and a Dunstall fairing.

Make sure your wheel bearings are in good condition, and think about fitting heavier gauge spokes.
Why do I suggest this you ask? Having to respoke the back wheel in a campsite in Greece.

wheel bearings will be replaced and I'm re-lacing the rims....have to watch that video available on this site a few times first...any thoughts on what wold be available for very lightweight sidecars for the bike?..usually as a rule one can get nothing in this country...

You'll need to considerably alter the gearing if you intend using 5th and 6th.
And keeping your clutch intact for any length of time.

I see EBC (?) makes HD clutch assemblies to fit my bike...how do you mean alter the gearing? :?

Sidecar gearing is lower than solo gearing.
You'll need a larger rear sprocket.
Gear for 60mph at full power. You'll not want to go any faster, trust me.
Make sure the brakes are on top line too as there will be more weight to stop as well as start.

standard I think is 14 front 43 (or is it 45?..can't remember) back....what would one need to go up to?

I wouldn't be allowed to go fast..swmbo would have a god damn hemorrhage..

http://www.gearingcommander.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; will help you work it out.
You'll have to fill in the details of course.
