Suzuki 2 Strokes

I REMOVED THE BAFFLES FROM MY 1976 GT 250 AND THE PERFERATED END IS FINE..THE FIBRE GLASS END IS NOT..iwas read I could use steel wool to re-wrap the end...has anyone ever done this and if so, how thick did you make it?

I read to make it tight and cover everything but it never said how thick to make it?


dumb question perhaps but crucial for operational purposes...

Do not use steel wool. Check youtube for videos of steel wool burning to see why. Now imagine those videos with the steel wool soaked in unburned fuel and oil. Not good.

Use 2 stroke muffler packing which is available for any 2 stroke dirt bike.

yes..thanks I will..in fact I bought the correct stuff...how many wraps does one do around the baffle? the stuff I removed was very tight and seemed thick...not sure if it was redone at some point...any suggestions will do nicely..there isn't any info I could find on this in particular to the bike I have...mind u I hate computers and spend as little time as possible on them

I bought baffle packing and soft wire from

One thickness of the wadding which comes in sheets and wind the soft wire round it in a double helix and poke the cut ends in.

Some don't like wadding but I think its so easy to change and softens the exhaust 'snaps' a little to make the sound richer, to my ears anyway!

thanks..u know I don't know if they offered wire?..another q: what type and thickness of wire do I need to get?..thought I read somewhere about using copper wire?...

just looked at the link..stainless steel and 0.5 mm thick....maybe this is a standard thickness and available at local hardware stores....or something..

You can use thin (.020") stainless lock wire, or just use some masking tape to hold the packing in place as you squeeze the baffle back into place.

you mean the same lock wire used to lock wire bolts etc?...will look for wire this weekend....thanks much...how often would one change these baffle waddings under normal use? I would imagine keeping them clean would certainly help retain power and fuel consumption...

Was the baffle packing dispensed with on the T250. My bike or the Haynes manual I have doesn't have this?

i beleive the packing was original..i suppose one a year will suffice...

Depends on mileage, how you ride and what the two stroke oil is. I've found they don't get oily in many thousands of miles with synthetic oil so they won't clog up as fast as back in the day.
