splitting cases

Well, im not one to jury rig anything so im splitting er up. My question is what exactly has to come off on the clutch side? And I assume im going to need a case splitter-which I can borrow if need be. I did a leak down test 3 yrs ago when I bought the bike so the im leaving the crank alone. Also should I mark the sris hoses or does it matter which cylinder they go to? I was told to use yamabond to seal it up. I already have the head and all the external cases off just dont know what has to come off as far as kicker gear,clutch,etc. Will the oil pump lift off with the top case? This is on the 380.

Everything has to come off, there are probably steel plates that are behind the clutch that are screwed into both case halves. The SRIS has to be hooked up a certain way, when one piston goes down it pumps the leftover oil into a piston on the upswing. Yamabond is fine, you will need a hand impact driver for the phillips screws inside the motor. I've never used a case splitter tool, a rubber mallet works for me.

Dave,
Sorry to hijack the thread but what is that great looking Carbon fiber fender from? Are you upgrading the new bike to all CF already? That really is going over to the dark side.

Nice fender, Dave. But are you sure you're not confusing amps with watts? 200 amps would not only power your GT, it would power your entire house.

I use the rubber mallet as well, there are huge flanges front and back to tap on, and they pop apart really easy with no damage this way. There are scars on both my GT500's where someone used something to wedge the cases apart

FWIW, if you have access to an old stove with a good oven in it AND the stove will NEVER be used again to prepare food for human consumption.....
just preheat the oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit, put the bottom end (previously stripped of all removable parts) into the oven for about 30 minutes and.....one or two whacks with the rubber hammer and she falls apart.
