GT380 Intake Ports

Post by miked914 »

Hello,

I've pulled the motor from my GT380 Café project and noticed that the inside of the intake ports/runners on the motor are quite rough from the original casting.

Does it make sense (or any worthwhile difference) to smooth the ports out a bit? I'm not going to go too crazy, just clean them up and move on.

It's probably a 30 minute project but I didn't want to waste my time, or worse, ruin anything in the process.

I'm running 3 into 3 Jemcos and UNI Foam filters (I know...I know... )

Thanks guys!

Just to clarify, I am not talking about modifying the actual intake ports cast into the cylinder walls--but rather the intake runner (where the rubber carb boot attaches) that feeds fuel/air mixture into the cylinder.

The inside of that runner "tube" is what has a rough casting finish.

Thanks!

My understanding was always to remove any obvious lumps & bumps & casting flaws from the inlet tract, so the shape is as regular as possible, but NOT polish it smooth, as the slightly rougher finish helps with fuel / air mixing.

Thanks Craig,

That's the way I was thinking and will give it a shot.
