Suzuki 2 Strokes

Got my T350 on the road last week. Took a couple of 20 miles rides. Runs good, but still have some slight carb leakage. I've fooled with the bowl gaskets, floats, and valves till I'm blue in the face, but will have to rip em apart and try again at some point. Going to ride for a while though. Did notice that my right side exhaust is smoking a lot more than the left. Could that be a crank seal going bad? Starts with one kick though, hot or cold. Thanks.

Remember it's nearly 50 years old. It won't ever be perfect again.

If your right side is smoking noticeably more than your left then check your transmission oil level and keep an eye on it. You are probably burning tranny oil.

Which to answer your question..... if you are burning tranny oil then yes you have a crank seal going bad.

As it's the right side that smokes, it might be the seal behind the primary drive pinion.

With a bike that's just recently back on the road after a lay-up, it's hard to diagnose accurately.

Unless you have previously cleaned out the exhaust pipes with caustic soda / jet wash etc, you can guarantee they will be FULL of oily crap from the previous owners, and from the time you've been working with it, sorting out the jetting etc.

It takes AGES to burn all this crap out, and until you do, it will smoke out of the pipes, and the smoke may well be uneven.

As the bike starts well hot or cold, that's a good sign. I wouldn't worry too much until you've had a chance to run the bike for a decent distance in one hit. Do keep an eye on the tranny oil level, though.

My t250 is doing the same thing.I replaced the seal behind primary gear (you can do this without splitting cases) but mine must be an inner seal,every 300-400 miles I must top off trans oil,runs very well ,but I got all the seals together for when I decide to open it up.

Appreciate all the guidance. I just changed the transmission oil before I took it out last week and I could barely get a quart in there before it started leaking out the check hole. I had removed all 3 drain bolts, so thought it was fully empty. Will keep an eye on that tranny level.
