Suzuki 2 Strokes

Hello!

I picked up a '68 S32-2 a few months ago with the intention of restoring it in my (limited) spare time. As expected I'm running into the "pure unobtanium" scenario as far as parts go, especially the rubber bits and pieces. Right now I'm trying to figure out if the fuel tank cap I got with the bike is the correct one. It fits very loosely in the tank, so loose that it would fall out if tipped over.

I can post some pics if that helps, but first of all I'd like to know if there should be a rubber gasket around the fuel tank opening. Right now it's just bare metal, and I haven't seen any gasket listed on the parts fiches. But I thought I'd ask before doing anything else.

Any help is greatly appreciated.....

That cap is most likely the correct cap. The cap is a rubber plunger style that merely sticks in the tank opening. Problem starts when the tank sits dry, the rubber cap shrinks and no longer seals. I have been told you can soak in gas or other swelling type stuff, but have never had luck with swelling the cap. I have restored 3 of these Lil Zuks and still own one. They are great simple bikes. You will most likely need a new petcock too, I have a lead on where to get one if needed.

Ah, that's what I was afraid of. I'm going to soak it in liquid silicone for a few days to see if that does the trick. As to the petcock, yeah, it's all shot to heck. I've seen quit a few suitable substitutes such as those compatible with Kawi A7 Avengers, and some aftermarket stuff as well (22mm thread, 1mm pitch, dual output). I wouldn't mind getting another lead on it however, and thanks for the offer.

Soaking in gas is the best way to make these pliable again. Went through this years ago trying all different kinds of rubber restore/renew products, none of them worked as well as plain old gas.
