GT550 Fork Brace

One of the things I'm thinking of doing as I reassemble the GT is replacing the steel front fender with a smaller ABS unit.

One of the things necessary to make that happen is to install a fork brace as the original is part of the fender.

If push comes to shove, I can butcher the original fender (which is in fairly sorry shape) and use the brace portion of it, but I'd rather not do that.

So, my question is, what has anyone used as a separate fork brace on their GT?

I have Tarozzi (sp?) from Jim at Fast from the Past on my 750.

None listed on his site for the GT550. Oddly, there IS one listed for the GT380.

Anybody know if they're compatible?

I can't answer that but I suspect that if you measure the forks on your bike and call Jim, he will be able to tell you if he has one that would work.

Have a read at this thread. I'm having one when they're done.
They won't be cheap, but the guy's a genius with alloy and stainless.
Have a look at his website - http://www.astrax.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; as well. (Look under Motor bikes/parts for sale).

Wow, pretty work!

Waaaaaaaaay out of my price range, I fear. I'm seeing mass-produced items in that class for $150 and up. Can't go there on my budget.

There is one listed on eBay for $59, but I don’t know if it will actually fit.

Some comparative info:
fork tube diameters per http://www.ohiocaferacers.com/OCRTubeSizes.pdf
33 mm: GT380
35 mm: GT500, GT550 & GT750

That's a "tweak bar" not a fork brace. Those were used on extended fork tubes. It actually attaches to the tubes, not the sliders. You don't want it. I bought a generic Hap Jones brace that had never been drilled and mounted it on my 750.

Something like that,l but mine had not been drilled.

Yeah, I wondered about that, the clamps looked awfully small.

I'm thinking the generic style will have to do on my budget. Just need to get some measurements and pull the trigger.
