Oil Tank Outlet Threads

Gents - Does anyone know right off what the thread guage is on teh outlet of the oil tank? Not the banjo bolt, but the larger assembly. I'm considering putting in a petcock (no faith in my aftermarket oil line valves, plus ability to shut off oil line) and I'm hoping I can find something that will screw right in...

Maybe make a warning sign for the bars to remind you to turn on the oil?

Anyone that could check the threads on a spare tank, instead of me draining mine just to check? Someone must have done some oil tank mods on a GT500 and would know this info...

Thanks!!!

Did an Internet search, couldn't find much on thread pitch, would imagine it's 1.25 ? The nut is still available 09361-14001 I know your trying to fit a tap on there...instead,a mate has put an inline tap on his GT550 to turn off the oil,he's had problems with the crankcase filling with oil past the check valves..have to be carefull to remember to turn it on before riding though !!!
Cheers,

My point precisely. One moment of brain-fade, -forgetting to turn the oil tap on, could cost you a major engine meltdown.
Plenty of pommie bike owners have done this mod to avoid the common wet-sumping problems, some to their cost!
The wise ones fit an ignition interlock so that the motor gets no spark until the oil tap is turned on.

I've got an in-line valve now - and it does the job, but looks like a hack job. I'd rather have something decent threaded in... Best case is to get the valves seating properly and just leave it open - at least that way I still have a shutoff for service.

If the breather was plugged on the oil tank, would that stop the flow when the engine's not running? Just thinking aloud and wondering if it might be possible to fit some sort of "electronic bung" that would open the breather when the ignition is turned on

I think it'd take quite a vacuum before it stopped gravity flow, but who knows.
Thinking laterally, you could park the front wheel on a ramp :-)

Easiest is to arrange and mount the oil tap and an electrical switch so that you have to open the oil tap in order to turn on the 'ignition' switch, just a matter of positioning of the levers.
