Not the crankcase oil capacity but the 2 cycle oil tank. I am looking to have a 4" diameter cylindrical oil tank made that's about 8" long. Total volume of that cylinder is around 1.7 quarts. I am just wondering how quickly I would burn through 1.7 quarts and how that related to the stock oil tank volume.

I don't have a T500 but I'd say you are right in the ball park. Maybe a tad more than the stock tank held. Are you going to incorporate a sight glass?
Be sure you mount the tank with its outlet above the oil pump inlet. These pumps don't have the ability to suck oil - only push it. They are gravity fed.

Did some more searching and the stock t500 holds 1800cc, which is about 1.9 quarts. Looks like my new tank would be a tad smaller. Guess I'll have to fill it more often. It will be higher than pump, so gravity feed should work. No sight glass planned although that's not a bad idea.

You should at least get 1000 kilometers (600 miles) from that.

I knew you were close. A GT550 (feeding a third cylinder) holds 3.2 pints - just over 1500cc

WRONG! I knew better that to look at the Clymer figures. ACTUAL is 2.5 pints -- 1190cc for the GT550 So I'll be adding oil way before you do
