Oil Pump on at T500... how should this work?

So I made a new oil line as mine was a wreck, filled my tank with oil and then moved that lever back and forth expecting the thing
to magically pump oil through the lines. I have to imagine this would work as waiting for the engine to be running first would mean that the pistons would be running un-lubricated which doesn't make any sense. What doesn't make sense to me is that the line doesn't fill up. At all. What gives?
Here's a photo, am I moving the right part? And I thought 4-strokes were complicated...

The lever changes the volume of oil pumped, but the pump only pumps when the engine runs. Applying a little pressure to the vent tube of the oil tank will prime the tubes an push some oil through to the engine.

If you remove the fasteners holding down the oil pump (don't lose the drive pin!) then rotate the pump shaft using a stiff thin metal rod while moving the pump lever to max, you should feel resistance to rotation and oil will emit from the holes in the pump base. If its like the GT triples, you'll see a hole per cylinder for the crank which emits slowly wherever the pump lever is, and a hole per cylinder which emits slowly when the pump lever is at idle and fairly spurts when the lever is at WOT.
While lifted, and you have access to the pump under the plate, you can prime the lines with a small syringe and perhaps different coloured oil to the oil in the tank. When you put it back together and run the motor, you'll see the lines refilling with tank oil and will assure you its fine (or not).
Cheers,
Mike

The twin's and the triple's oil pumps are two completely different animals.

Moving the pump arm back and forth does absolutely nothing. All the arm does is control the volume of oil being pumped when running. I don't know on the 500, but with the cables set correctly the proper amount is being delivered. The pump shaft runs the pump, not the lever.

The bolt to the left of the tach cable & just above your finger can be used to prime the pump.
BUT BE WARNED that this bolt has reverse threads.
Bloop2 has a kit with all of the seals & o-rings for the pump.
There are a number of posts about rebuilding this pump.
If you need more info, let us know & I'll look for the topics.

The T500 pump has I believe a bleed facility which allows oil from the oil tank to run down and prime the pump. My trusty Haynes workshop manual is not currently handy so I can't actually point it out to you. I'm sure someone has the details.
Cheers Geoff
edit: See, it was posted as I typed this (with two fingers

Can anyone give me a link to Bloop2 please. (My searches come up with a blank).
Or other sources of re-co kits (o-rings etc) for the GT500 Oil pump.
Cheers,
Jools

This was the guy I bought my pump kit off -
http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/retsoo" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
He doesn't appear to have any advertised for sale at the moment, but no harm in sending him a message

That should be bloop2.
Looks like he doesn't have the kits listed on eBay at the moment.
Best bet is probably to PM him though this forum.

I'm currently sold out, should have some more in a couple of weeks. Also have been slacking off this summer!

Thanks jabcb, I'll give that bolt a shot. Otherwise I'll have to get it running and pump oil through then. I'd have to put a
bit into the cylinders through the spark plugs so that I don't starve it in the beginning.
