Well I took the gt750 for a ride, and right when I was coming to a stop to merge onto a busy highway, I went to pull the clutch in and snap! crap! I almost didn't stop,, I pressed the brakes and motor died, car behind me seemed pissed but oh well,,, I pushed the bike jumped on and slammed it into gear and away I went all the way home with no clutch, wow that sucked, I just kept jamming it into and out of gear,,,Question,,, I found a clutch cable from motion pro on ebay for $12.00 bucks, so I ordered that,,,,Im thinking maybe I should replace the clutch, as far as I know its original, seems to work good but this last time I changed my oil the oil looked kinda greyish, weird thought maybe the clutch was starting to go or I have some other problem,,, anyway I might replace the clutch and IM wondering what do you guys use? I found a Barnett clutch on ebay but it said it was for a set of 6 plates, I look on their actual site and it calls for 8 plates? I have not taken it apart but im wondering how many plates is there suppose to be? my gt750 is a 1974,,,,,thanks

I would just replace the cable and see how you go. Maybe dump the tranny oil again, as oil is pretty cheap. It's common for it to look greyish / dark after 1000 miles or so because it picks up all the bits of friction material and crud.

+1 on that. There should be no reason to work on the clutch unless it slips.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

GT750 uses 8 plates. I'd pass on the Barnett. I bought a Barnett a long time ago off ebay. It was supposed to be for a GT550 clutch which uses 6 plates. When it arrived, there were 8 plates. Needless to say it didn't fit. I figured it was for a Buffalo. Didn't fit that either. I still have it, but I have no idea what it fits. It does fit the shelf.

This is a common consequence for aged cables. But, can happen to new ones also if someone doesn't keep cables lubed. These are absolutely genius. Well worth the money to prevent someone from being stranded. Which has happened to me over the years more than once. Was thinking about buying them and placing them in my took kit. Wouldn't be difficult to make your own. Hi,the clutch cable issues have been discussed on the Kettle Clinic,most people are in favour of only using genuine Suzuki cables,as they work like they should nice & smooth,aftermarket clutch cables have their problems apparently,stiff action, & are prone to break before their time :shock:

I put Motion Pro cables on my Buffalo. They worked great. IMO they are equal to if not better than OEM. All are too expensive.

Be sure you grease the barrel on the end of the cable where it slots into the lever. If it's dry it won't swivel and flexes the cable to the point of breakage.
