Spring puller? a T-bar with a hook on the end?

Re: Exhaust Springs
Yep, spring hook. I have made them out of old spokes. Just bend a hook in one end and form a triangle in the other.

If you stroke it more than twice; you're playing with it.

Re: Exhaust Springs
Is there another way? I made a puller out of an old spoke. The puller itself interferes with the pipe before I can get the spring end over far enough to hook on.
Also, I need someone to check the dimension I posted in the picture. I really can't see how this could be wrong, but I guess it's possible. At assembly, I pulled everything together with a tie down strap - really tight

Re: Exhaust Springs
Yes the dimension is correct, same as mine! I just use a pair of Vise Grips, clamped on one end and pull the hook over the loop.

Re: Exhaust Springs
Thanks Cliff for verifying the dimension. Vise grips were my next plan. It wouldn't be near as hard if there was a little more room.. Also it would have been nice if Suzuki had used little turnbuckles.

Re: Exhaust Springs
I have used one of these and the end fell off in short order

So I then got a MAC tools S91 from somewhere and it is the bees knees. If I ever see another I'll grab it. Best spring puller for exhaust springs on the planet. Period.

Re: Exhaust Springs
A single strand of heavy guage wire,
Through the spring hook, One end over and one end under the pipe,
Tie both ends around a six inch bar and pull towards you,
Hook spring on loop.

Re: Exhaust Springs
I got them on. All of about a 5 minute job. I used a section of old spoke and a pair of vise grips that are as old as me. I ground the inner part of the end boss of the spoke so it would slide. Found out later that I didn't really need to do that.

Re: Exhaust Springs
I realized the picture above is a bit confusing. I actually used it in this position. Spring end in hook and pulled the vise grips toward me with both hands.
