Whats the easiest way to install grips? The last grips I installed I used commercial grip glue. I barely got them on after fighting them for 20 minutes. The glue started to dry before I got them all the way on and the last inch or so was a real struggle. In the past I have used heavily soaped water. Works OK but takes forever to dry - especially on the left grip. I watched some videos on you-tube and it seems to be popular to use compressed air under the grip. That's all well and good if your grips have no hole in the end and would totally not work on grips designed for bar end mirrors.
The grips I am using are pretty generic. Google "progrip 714" That will keep me from having to post a picture. I have these same grips on my GS1000. They are super comfortable. I am ready (almost) to put the throttle grip on. Dozens of you guys have installed grips. I am looking for the least painful method. The grips have a small hole on the end (about 1/16). Just do the Google mentioned above.

I do this method on my mountain bikes and motorcycles. Clean all glue etc, from the handlebar and throttle tube. Wipe handlebar and throttle tube with alcohol and allow to dry. Spray windex sparingly on the handlebar and throttle tube (don't use a lot). Tap grip into place using a rubber mallet. Allow to dry for 1 day. No glue necessary. Like I mentioned before I use this method on my mountain bikes and the only time they twisted was when I bailed into a mud pit and they got wet.

Compressed air will work even if the grip is open on the end...just takes a few seconds longer. I use it for every grip I install. Just hold your hand over the open end and use that to push while you are giving it that blast from the air gun.

There is a product available in a small aerosol can, which you simply spray into the new grip, and it slides on real easy. It then dries instantly.....we have used it in our workshop. Problem is, I can't remember what the bloody stuff is called. Hopefully someone else here has come across it.

No products are necessary. Just use water from a spray bottle to twist the grips on. Once they dry out. They will never move. If they're quality made grips. A mid to very soft rubber grip allows them to grip the bar without glue, etc. A harder rubber grip, like the original GT grips for example. You may want to use glue on them. But, as long as a harder grip remains dry. It won't spin either. Good thing about not using glue. You will easily be able to remove them when needed. Spray water or a lubricant under them if that time comes and you can reuse them without having to cut them off.

I concur, always just used water.

I have had good luck using rubbing alcohol. Slick when wet and dries quickly. //Pat

clean bar, wet with water, one tiny drop of dishwash liquid, pop the grip in hot (not boiling) water, slip grip on, leave a day, job done

Totally agree with Whit. takes no effort at all using rubbing alcohol or metho.

Ive always used hair spray. A nice big bottle of aqua net lasts a long time. On the dirt bikes I add wire sometimes too.

I hate the mess that is left from the glues.

Believe it or not WD-40 works, it dries overnight and sticks.

Used th WD-40 method. Piece of cake.
