GT185 Rear tire opinions

Spring will be here soon and I need another new rear tire. I have logged approx. 3,000 miles on my GT185 since I purchased it. Since that time I have gone thru 2 rear tires. Michelin M62 Gazelle 3.00 x 18. Now I know operator riding style, throttle happiness, and road surface/ hills affects tire wear. Is 1500 miles for a rear tire acceptable? What do others here with a small bore 2 stroke run tire wise? Michelin Gazelles are cheap price wise but if there's something better wearing I'll look into that. Suggestions please

I don't have a small bore 2-stroke, but that's horrible. 1500 miles per tire? You can damn near do that on a tube. Is it possible you are using a front tire? They are designed differently than a rear. If you wasnt to stay on the cheap side, go to this site and check out the Kenda's They are a really decent tire and very reasonable. They should wear LOT"S longer. I have over 10,000 miles on a set of Cheng Shins and the tires still have plenty of tread left. I have done business with this site and will again. You have to pay shipping over and above the listed prices, but they were very reasonable and shipped fast. Lots of tires to choose from here.

For that (low) mileage, you should at least be benefiting from a helluva good and confident lean angle

Thanks for the suggestion. I was looking at a Kenda, may have to try that one. Most of my riding with the GT185 is on secondary and back roads. Here in western Pa to make the roads last a little longer they "tar and chip" the roads. This leaves a pretty rough surface once all the chips have settled. You usually find this process on the back roads which I ride. My theory is this is why my tires don't last. Oh yeah, I am surprised that this little bike handles fairly well, I don't want to push the envelope to far though...

1500 miles on a GT185 tire?!?!?!?! I got more than that from a Kenda Challenger on my Kawi H2 and that bike ripped chunks of rubber off the Kenda.
I got good results from a Duro on my GT550, but I don't know if they make a 3.00X18 or the metric equivalent.

Thanks for the suggestion. I checked Duro's website and they do in fact have several tires in the 3.00x18 size to choose from.
