Back over the summer there was a post about a gearbox noise that went away when the clutch lever was squeezed. I cannot find the post. I have a similar problem on my 71 T250 with 73 GT250 engine. If someone can point me to the post or give me some insight I would me most appreciative.

I didn't look for the old post but I would expect such a noise to be down to the bearing that the clutch drum runs on!
Cheers,
Mike

Only makes noise in neutral. I have to look at the schematic, but I hope I don't need to open the case. I just rebuilt it in 2013.

Not the same animal but my GS1000 has been doing that for 20 years. No ill effects.

My 70 does the same thing. I figure if it gets worse or I have to tear down for some other reason I'll check it out. but for now, it runs and works just fine and is not getting any worse.

Brilliant. I have been running oil which is too thin. I am going to try that first as it is the easiest fix among the possible causes and take it from there. I have bookmarked the page. Thx!!!

With respect to the bulletin reference in a previous, which I have done, the next time I bought a new clutch bushing (the thing the bulletin says to sand shorter) ,maybe a year or two ago, from Suz and to my surprise it came with the thrust washer machined with it... where as before it was two separate pieces. For me that new part, when installed, took away the noise you describe.

Running thicker oil (15W40) has made the noise all but disappear.
