New to the site...GT380 forks?

I am new to the site. I have a '72 GT380 J model. It is pretty rough so I am going to do fork swap. I am just looking for info on where to start and what to use. I have done numerous Google searches and while many have done it I am not finding as much info about what was used and what cannot be used.

Just looking for some places to start studying and getting some info.

Just go for a later model 380 front end - lots about and the old twin leading shoe brake on the J model was crap anyway. Fetch good money though.

I was kind of hoping to look into more of a performance oriented front end. I have decided that I am going to go with a retro-mod type restoration. Does not have to necessarily be inverted forks but something more modern.

Unless you do something also with the back end and possibly the frame (let alone the motor), the last thing you'll end up with, starting with a GT380, is 'performance' (LOL).
Don't get me wrong, I've owned one since 1978 and it'll be the last possession I lose, just after my marbles. But performance isn't the label I'd attach to it. Charming, possibly

ps: you're not wrong though - the stock forks are nothing marvellous and thats being kind!

A twin disk Gt750 front end might just bolt straight on....not 100% sure, someone here may know. If you still need to stop quicker, modern single sided callipers can be fitted with an adapter. I think it unlikely that any modern front end will just bolt right on.
