Simple 550 question

There is a hoop on the right side retained by one of the horn mount screws. I don't remember what passes through here. Apparently I removed it before I started taking pictures. What goes here?

It should be mounted on the left side and the speedo cable runs through it (or at least thats what I have seen on other GTs)
On the GT550, the tacho cable runs through a wire loop which is centrally mounted on the frame, you'll see the threaded hole on the forward-facing frame gusset under the steering head.
Cheers,
Mike

Mike, you can actually see the mounting hole for that loop in the pic I posted. Judging by the coloration around the hole, something was mounted there. But I only find the one hoop in my parts bin. I guess I'll have to keep looking. I was hoping it was with my tach cable, but it's not. :(
I found the part in the cable fiche. It is called "clip, tachometer cable" so I guess you are right. The loop is NLA so I best find the one I had.

Well I guess I'll have to go through life wishing I had one. I looked everywhere it could possibly be -- twice. I halfway think it was missing when I got the bike as I don't remember removing it. I went through some pictures of my last build and I definitely had one on it. Searched online by part number and no one has it..Going to post in the wanted section but I don't have much hope.

That hoop on the frame is almost impossible to get. I made my own out of heating and bending Stainless steel tig rod. It turned out pretty good. But its fairly necessary, otherwise the cable will bounce between the motor and the frame messing up all 3.

Amen to that - the cable will otherwise thrash about!

There was one positive event while searching through parts for the missing hoop. I happened across a brand new obsolete spark plug trim ring. Never used, soft and pliable. It's the last ring of the 3 different ones offered by Suzuki. Part number 33545-34000. Now I just need 2 more  I am going to use headlight grommets for trim rings (as suggested by pearljam), but they are so large that they really don't look right at all. But, it beats nothing at all.
I googled for the part by number. No one has it and no one is reproducing it.

Those may work, though they are used (at least on the Suzuki GTs I own) to guide the oil pump cable down the right front side of the carb top.

Mike

If you call Damon's. What ever the hell they are called now. With a part number, they can still get you just about any part you need. That's what they told me. Even though their site isn't necessarily set up like it used to be. Call them.
