OK. Here you can see the whole thing. Note the 2 giant crimp connectors. Also note that the part number begins with an X. No one has seen this? Surely I can't have the only one. I thought I read a long time ago something about colors not matching the schematic color code. Could this be one of those 'corrected'? It's obviously a factory harness. Lucky me.
This thread goes with my other thread "Crowded Headlight Bucket"

Under magnification, the first number after the dash is a 3. I googled x3122-36610. It turns up nothing. Perplexing.

My parts list for GT550 front wiring loom is one of these:

36610-33102, 33610-33103, 33610-34901.

Dunno why they have more wire than seems needed, and don't recall an overly crowded headlamp on my 550B?

Not that much room in there either, I'll confess. Persuading the wires to use the edges more seems to help, so buckets have nice soft wire, plastic covered cable clamps to help there.

Cheers,
Mike

L - 36610-33710
M - 36620-33710

So Gawd only knows!!

THIS might help.
Not cheap and would need mounts sorting, but the wires would go in.

According to Service Bulletin GT23, starting in February 1974 Suzuki had difficulty obtaining the correct wiring so they used whatever they could get and added small white tags to each wire to indicate the color that it should be.

GT23 seems to suggest that the temporary fix applied only to GT380 and 750 models, but in any case it really was a 74 L problem.

Wiring looms from that era that I have seen, do have small tags on each wire. My first GT750 was a 74 with a mixed color loom. I cannot remember what number was on the wiring tag though.

Allan is correct that those large crimps are common - especially on Switched 12v (orange) and Ground.

I looked it all over and I don't see any little white tags. No biggie I guess as it was working when I got it. Tail light, brake light gauge lights and electric starter were all functional. There was no headlight or turn signals to test, but the wires are all there. Apparently the headlight was assembled once before, should go again. Supposedly the headlight (lamp) and front signals were mounted to one of those mini fairings -- long gone so I didn't get those. I got the rear signals but they had been removed and the wires had been cut. I tested them (without flasher) and they both work.
What bugged me is that wound up harness mess and the part number starting with an X. I guess I'll never know.
