Horrible White Grommets now Black

Post by Coyote »

I had an old well used set of ram air grommets. On the shelf I had a bottle of black leather dye from a project eons ago. I thought "why not"? With wire ties I hung them in the bottle of dye for 24 hours each. Lifted them out and blotted off the excess and hung them to dry. Once dry, the dye does not come off and the grommet remains flexible. You can handle them all you want and you don't get any black on your fingers. I haven't decided if I'm going to do my good set or not -- but now I know it can be done. Water doesn't bother them but I imagine any kind of solvent would take it right off. It doesn't penetrate. It's just a layer of block over the white.

I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

Why go through the trouble when you can buy brand new black grommets that fit the ram air cover from hardware stores ? I fitted my cover for less than a few bucks. Take a trip to Lowes. :D Image
