octopus still leaking after repeated cleaning/soaking

Post by mikefealk »

so i syringed oil into all six lines on the octopus and let it hang over a paper towel. 3 leaked badly. ran rubbing alcohol through the lines, let it sit a day. try again. still leak. tried carb cleaner and seafoam setting in the lines also for a couple days. still leak. filled a pan full of alcohol and let the valves sit in that. the leaks have slowed down, but if you let it hang it will still leak. would you say go ahead and install it with the minor leaky check valves, or purchase those reproduction ones out of uk, or gamble on a used octopus off ebay? im out of ideas for fixing mine.

If you put it on the motor with them leaking ,you will most likely drain your oil tank through those leaky lines and fill your crank area. They may not be dirty anymore, but just have weak springs in there from years of working.
