gt750 oil pump seal
Well I took the gt750 out for a ride, it had been sitting for months , once I got home I noticed oil weeping from the oil pimp cover ,( the little hole at the bottom), so I pulled the cover and I was afraid that it might be oil from that hole behind the pump, which indicates a bad crank seal , or so I have read, but it was not that , a while back I had ordered a bunch of pumps from ebay and I made one good pump, which I made a test stand and used a drill to verify that it worked. The gasket at the top started leaking and I ordered one from that guy on here? don't remember his name but I believe he is in Germany? anyway that did the trick and no more leaks, well today it now seems to be leaking from the seal at the top of the pump where the arm is, the seal must be bad, and im wondering if that is a seal you can get at a seal shop? or is it a special item? I had a small puddle of oil from this and im wondering if its ok to still ride? I know its getting oil but not sure at what pressure or how much since its leaking from that seal..... any help would be appreciated thanks.. also I just read a similar old thread about this but nobody replied if this seal has been found or not? its the seal on the actuating arm of the pump, ohh and the guy I got the gasket from was reihner? not sure if spelt right,,,

Re: gt750 oil pump seal
If you are talking about the gasket under the lid of the pump. They are no longer available. Not sure if they ever were. That is the one Rheiner makes and sells you bought. You can easily make one yourself if you have to. But, it takes some patience and precision cutting using a gasket sheet. Just for future reference. If a crank seal ever gives up the ghost and blows out the breather. There will be no second guessing it. Transmission oil will be absolutely everywhere. Especially on the exhaust and on the side of the clutch / kick starter cover when the bike's rpm's are above cruising.

Re: gt750 oil pump seal
Eddie, your bike's crank seals may be fine for now. But, if you assume that they are the original seals. I would put some serious thought into replacing them some day soon. Until then, pay attention closely and often to warning signs. Before my rebuild. My first indication was a piece of the left seal wedged into my spark plug electrode when checking the plugs one day. When and if they go, park it soon as possible. Get to where you need to park it and don't ride it over a low speed pace to avoid putting a hole in a piston or seizing one. Not trying to make you worry about that. Just something to be conscious of.

Re: gt750 oil pump seal
thanks for the info!, but im talking about the oil pump actuator arm, the top of the oil pump that has the arm that connects to the rod, that goes to the carb. The arm on the "lid" of the oil pump has a o-ring or seal that keeps oil from coming out of the top of the pump, when I took the side cover off the oil pump housing I saw oil all over the oil pump arm or lever , it had dripped down from there and was leaking out the weep hole at the bottom of the oil pump housing, it was two stroke oil and not tranny oil, and its not leaking from the base gasket but from up top, my crank seals are original so im always kinda worried about them going out, the bike is a 74 and only has 16 thousand miles on it, the bike sat for a long time, I bought it with 14 thousand miles so iv put 2, 000 miles on her so far AND I HOPE ALOT MORE!, but the far left cylinder has always smoked more than the others and it compression is pretty low so hopefully it lasts for now,,,,,

Re: gt750 oil pump seal
Try to include some pictures of the seal you are referring to. It's very seldom parts are available new for any of these pumps. Doesn't mean you can't obtain an o ring or gasket that will work. The leak you witnessed, could have very well came from the bottom of the pump too. Did you ever change the o rings that are inserted into the octopus or verify the pump is fastened tight enough to the octopus ? Watch tightening it too much though. Look for cracks on the octopus also.Eddie wrote:thanks for the info!, but im talking about the oil pump actuator arm, the top of the oil pump that has the arm that connects to the rod, that goes to the carb. That seal is a tiny oddball sized V seal which so far I have been unable to locate. I use an O ring from my local bearing supply store.
