Hey moderators! How about a new section called "How To"?
OK. we've all been there. You're trying tp disassemble or reassemble your forks and that bottom Allen bolt just goes round and round. Nothing is happening as it turns the innards with the bolt. No matter how hard you try to 'shock' the bolt, it still just goes round and round.
I was putting my forks back together this morning and I thought I'd take these photos This might help others that are faced with that miserable bolt not wanting to cooperate.
Tools you will need:
A 2 foot length of 3/8 pipe. Optionally you can use socket extensions snapped together. I used to use an 18' and a 4" together.
A furniture clamp (available at Home Depot) with a length of 3 feet or more. I don't have a 3 footer, but I do have a four.





Slide the pipe in the fork up against the damper





Now get the clamp and clamp between the open pipe end and one of the axle studs. Tighten securely.





Don't forget to leave room for your Allen wrench.





Now it's easy to extract or install the Allen bolt. Tighten to your hearts content. You have locked the internals in place and they will not rotate!



Hope this helps next time you face that job.

My apparatus basically does the same thing. I guess I took the hard way to get there. Oh well.......................
Speaking of oil, that's all I lack to finish these up. I don't know about the rest of the world, but ALL motorcycle shops in Okla. are closed on Monday. No oil till Tuesday. This old Suzuki published manual says to use 10w-30 motor oil in the forks. I don't think so.

or.....air powered impact wrench is your friend.

but good workaround if you don't have one.

I too have gone the method of fork upside down, pushing on slider while trying to turn the allen. Mixed results.

Air impact works every time though.

I always use ATF, in all my bikes, Has always served me well. I keep a gallon jug that get the remnants from quart bottles of ATF I've used to top off various vehicles over the years.

As mentioned before ATF is not a suitable fluid for forks, use specific viscosity fork oil, thats why they make it.
