Timing Tolerance. WOW that's a country mile.

When I bought my current GT550 I was given a Suzuki published 550 service manual. I was flipping through it and happened upon the timing procedure.. It says the timing marks on the casting are for emergency purposes only. A dial gauge must be used, Well OK. It gives the spec at 3.37mm (.132) BTDC. But then it goes on to give a tolerance on that spec.of 2.85mm (.112) to 4.24mm (.170). WOW! That's a lot! A difference of 1.39mm (.058)) I would be willing to bet good money that the casting marks are well within that range.
None of this has any particular importance. I was just amazed at the tolerance.

It is very wide tolerance, I guess it shows that Suzis are not fussy about the timing being spot-on, unlike rival brands :)
