GT380 Keyed Ignition Delete

Evening All,

I'm working on the wiring on my 1974 GT380 (Cafe build). I was wondering if I can remove (delete) the keyed ignition switch and simply run the bike as an ON/OFF using the toggle on the right hand grip?

Is it as easy as connecting the wiring from the keyed ignition switch in a loop so it is always "ON" when the handgrip toggle is ON?

I'd like to remove the keyed switch purely for aesthetic reasons.

Any thoughts and/or tips on how to pull this off would be great. I have the 6 wire ignition switch.

Thanks!

Mike

Do you want to make the bike easier to steal?

I'm not worried about it being stolen.

Simple answer is NO. The main switch controls lights in two of the positions as well as ignition.

The longer answer is that anything is possible if you are good with electrics.

Another possibility is to move that keyed switch to somewhere else less obvious, but since all bikes have a key somewhere, there's not a whole lot of point and the old GT's are not the smoothest shapes, so there's arguably not a lot to be gained. Hey, it's your bike and you know how all that wiring stuff works, go for it.

If you try and run everything through the kill switch, you will melt it. Ir's not designed to take the amount of current that will run lights, horn, brake lights etc. Of course if you make the kill switch operate a couple of relays to switch circuits on, that would work. The 6 wire switch gives parking lights which you can do without, I would suggest.
A lot of work for little benefit though methinx.
