GT500 - Candlepower 7" Halogen - Will it fit?

Post by speedfreak »

I need to replace my blown sealed beam headlight and I would like to upgrade to halogen. Candlepower has a 7" halogen reflector with bulb which looks shallow enough to fit in the GT500 bucket, but I don't want to order just to find out I'm wrong...

I have searched and read the posts about changing the rim - is that valid? Seeing as it is just teh compression fittings to hold the bulb in place, why does it need to be changed?

Please save me from (another) costly mistake.

Thanks,

This is because the T500 headlight isn't round, but has a flattened edge at the bottom.

If the GT500 headlight is round, the halogen fits, and the bike generates enough electrical power, go for it.

I think your generator has the same output as the T500 one, so will be unable to cope with a headlamp bulb of more than 35W. If the halogen bulb is 50/60W, it will probably progressively flatten your battery

I have a 45/45 on my T500. Works well, no issues. But I also upgraded the electrics to an integrated regulator/rectifier, AGM battery, and eliminated the wiring to the headlamp switch (all windings, all the time, as headlamp is always on). I did replace the stock headlamp bucket with an aftermarket, as the stock bucket was flat bottom.

Have a 75 T500 with a round headlight.

Am also using a 45/45W H4 headlight, but with the stock headlight bucket.
The headlight is for a GS L model that I got via eBay. Needed a different rim + some misc parts.
For info see:

Am also using an AGM battery + a Tympanium regulator/rectifier that is wired directly to the alternator.
