Crank builder needed

Post by 2strokelove »

Hello, I'm new this forum but have been a member of the Kawasaki triples forum for quite some time now. This is my first go at a Suzuki. So far its been good. The victim is a 1972 GT550.
I was referred by Paul Miller Suzuki to a Crank builder named John. I kinda have a feeling that he does some of the restorations for Paul. I talked to John today but he is buried in work until next year March. So who is a good crank builder that you guys use here on the forum For your Suzuki's? Thanks for the help.

I can only talk for myself and I have no experience with "John" but I am over small shops doing crank work. I recently stripped a couple of bikes with rebuilt cranks and they were abysmal.

I send all my crank work now to Bill Bune in Anoka MN. His prices are fair, turnaround is usually quick and quality so far has been fine - for my work. I have no idea about anyone else's experience but I have the next two cranks boxed up to go to Bill Bune enterprses

+1 on bill bune. Just rebuilt my t350 with fresh seals and bearings. Did a fantastic job, reasonably priced, and got the whole thing done in a week including shipping to and from.

I have had them build a couple of GT750 cranks and split a few cranks - Polaris, Honda twins etc.

Yep, he sounds like the guy then. I talked to the shop today about getting it over there. I've decided to send the cylinders to him also. May as well get it all done in one shot!! Thanks for all the good feedback. Always good to have a good feeling before the parts ever get there!!

I sent Bill Bune my T500 crank and just about ready to send my GT750 crank. SuzukiDave's comment about only sending up the seals is what I have been wracking my brain about for the past week. I hate buying bearings without knowing if I need them but I also never ever plan to pull that cylinder head off again. My 72 has 32000 miles on it and I wonder if there is any way to tell if the crank has ever been rebuilt before. I will probably be cautious and send up the $400 package of seals and bearings.

Another vote for Bill Bune here. He always asked that I send the seals and o-rings along with the crank for rebuild.

I have also been satisfied with the job done by Wisconsin Recreational Crankshaft:
