Blast it!
I'd agree with the blasting suggestion. My front fender is painted, and I attacked it with a wire brush on a drill and it basically made very scratched chrome, but did not remove it. I took it to a shop that sand blasted it and painted it, and it's been fine.

Yes,
I enjoy bringing something almost as old as I am back to life.
Working on a project is half the fun for me.
I doubt that I,ll get to go to the Gap meet this year. But I'll be heading up there next year.
With the price of gas. The 380 might be my main mode of transport.
You have a fantastic looking 500 there!!!!!

Now I'm crossing my fingers to win a set of nigh-perfect rims of eBay from a local seller...The price so far is too good to be true.
We'll see.

Chris,
Almost as old as you? Mine is older than me...
You know, with the price of gas, and what I've read, that SV will continue to be your main mode of transport; doesn't the GT only get about 38mpg?

Homebuilt GT500 CDI WORKS!!!!!!
With the design genius of Phil C in England, I have built a CDI for the 500. Between the two of us, we reverse engineered the CDI, I made a very rough looking prototype, hanged it off the side of the handloop by the left shock. Crossed all my fingers and kicked. IT STARTED!!!!! Ran it for two minutes varying rpm every now and then then killed it. Restarted it and ran it for a few more minutes.Checked all the parts for overheating, etc. No problems. Now I need to make it smaller on the circuit board and put it in a box to mount on the bike. We now have an alternative to $216.00 new OEM CDI. So far this has cost about $60.00 in parts. I will keep everyone updated as to my progress with the new one.

Bugger! Maybe not use the lectric starter when timing points
I dug up a starter and starter reduction gear for my GT550 because the old ones were junk (stripped starter and broken reduction gear teeth) and replaced them a couple days ago...
Well I was getting around to timing it and threw it back together hit the button and it went CLANK.
Anyways, I figure one of the cylinders was timed waaaay too early and spun the crank backwards against the starter power and broke the starter reduction gear again....
Oh well, it always goes faster the second time around I guess.
