Re: KL250 / GT550 trade
This tank needs the liner removed (acetone??). I doubt if I will use the KZ tank on it because there's not enough room for the three coils in their stock orientation. If I can relocate the coils (or maybe mount two on top and the third below them) then it would be tempting to stick the KZ tank / seat / tail on it. I will let you know, Coyote, if that is what happens.Coyote wrote:Tank looks good on there. More aggressive stance then the rounded GT tank. If you change, I claim dibs on your GT tank.. Been looking for another tank (and side covers) for a while now.
There was a radiator shop in OKC that does a real good job lining tanks with some purple stuff for a reasonable price. I had them line a CB350 tank a few years ago. I can't remember the name of the place, but I could find out. I believe that Mouse at A&A cycles recommended them.

I don't know of anything that will remove a liner. I line all my tanks with POR-15. It does a beautiful job, but like anything else, it takes time to do it right. Kreem works OK, but you can't rush it either. It's like a good paint job, it's all in the prep and critical drying time.
There was a guy on here a few years ago that did his tank with POR-15. He didn't wait log enough to add fuel. The POR-15 mixed in the gas and he ran it that way!! coating his petcock and carburetors in the process. I don't know what ever happened to that bike. Probably on top of a trash heap somewhere.
Good luck on removing the liner and let us know if you find something that actually works. I doubt acetone will touch it.

I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

Re: KL250 / GT550 trade
Well, being curious I had to do some research. Apparently acetone will dissolve Kreem. One guy said he uses acetone and a couple pounds of drywall screws (short) and a clothes dryer with blankets stuffed around the tank to keep it centered. There's lots of blurbs and videos if you Google 'remove motorcycle tank liner".
Also from an expert -- I've now cleaned/sealed over 200 tanks. I'll no longer "redo" the ones that have the trash called "Kreem"
inside. The best remover is MEK, methyl ethyl ketone, or methyl ethyl DEATH. Nasty stuff. If you choose
to use it, put a plastic bag over your head and tape it closed; just kidding, but use it outdoors, and be aware
that it is capable of melting multiple brain cells. Since the gvmt is into everything else, it'd be good if they'd
ban Kreem.
