I don't have near the knowledge on these bikes as most of you guys but to me it looks a lot like galvanic corrosion much as you would see on a boat. Was the bike
kept in a salt air environment?

Being of Jersey origin, I know what that's all about. But there is no salt air in Oklahoma. As far as I know. the bike has spent its whole life here. HOT humid summers and fairly moderate winters by comparison. I sorely miss the ocean. It was just 7 miles from home.
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.
