Reunited!

Post by Digger »

Hello people, Digger here from across the pond. Image

Had a T500M from new in 1975 as a lad, and happily now in a position to replace it.

Found just what I’ve been looking for on good ol’ ebay, a rideable T500M, same colour, same year, needing some tlc but very usable.

When buying a replacement grabrail the seller (*johnakay*) pointed me in the direction of this forum, and I know within a couple of minutes of browsing that I’ll be right at home here.

I’m sure I’ll be along with questions as time goes by, and I hope I might even be able to answer a few.

Like DrAwkwArD, who joined just before me, my main bike is a Buell. Had this one (XB12XT) from new in early 2008, previously had a 1999 M2 from new.

A few pics for you then ….

First run out, a couple of weeks ago. By the village pond at Wetwang (yes, really!)

Spot the difference, folks!

So far I’ve had the seat re-upholstered, had the forks serviced, and just got it through the UK roadworthiness test. The last sunny run of the summer was enjoyed last weekend, and now I’ve started the gradual dismantling process for cleaning, polishing and occasional chroming. I’ve sourced a good electronic ignition kit, and will tidy up the wiring over the winter.

Cheers for the welcome, lads, it's much appreciated.

Any riding in our Indian Summer (and in the winter, for that matter ...Image ) will be on the Buell now, I'm keen to get started on the restoration! 8)

Quick update from the Digger shed .... first chroming work is back from the specialists, exhaust headers & retaining roses... they look great. Rear end has had a facelift with one of johnakay's grabrails and a shiny pair of rear indicators. Changing a few engine bolts for ease of maintenance, and I've now tracked down a pair of the correct black fork gaiters for next time I have the front end apart. Front wheel will be next - rebuild with stainless spokes I think.
No photographs at this stage, I think I'll wait until it's all done.
Thanks to all here for a wonderful information resource and again for the warm welcome.
