New owner with a simple question...

Post by Justindians »

Hello all. I recently bought a '73 T500 and it's missing the side cover knob. I ordered on from Paul Miller but was mailed the wrong part. He sent one for a GT500 by mistake. The second one I received wasn't in a bag w/ a part number so I have no idea if it's correct. The first is way too small in diameter, the second is the same only an inch or so longer. Am I missing something here? It looks as if the knob screws directly into the frame, but both knobs sent are much too small to do so. Is there a nut or sleeve that fits in there I may be missing? I know this probably sounds dumb, but I wanna be sure he's mailing the wrong knob before I fire off another email. Any help is much appreciated.

Hey,

The side cover for the T500 should be the same as the GT500 - part 47230-01002. The metal shaft part sticking out of the knob is about 43mm long. There should be a retaining washer too - part 09152-06001 or this knob will go missing eventually too! The T500's had a metal spacer between the side cover and the retainer that was 23mm long. This was eventually obsoleted and Suzuki added the spacer to the side cover as extra plastic.

Interestingly, I checked my usual parts source for the knob (Ron Ayers) and their system doesn't recognize the number. Temecula motorsports has all the Suzuki fiches and their system DOES recognize the number and says it's $4.93. I seem to remember buying them from Ron Ayers only a couple of years ago for $2-$3. Maybe they are discontinued as well?

Hope this helps! If you're having trouble getting the knobs you purchased to work, post up some pictures and we'll help you figure it out!
