Speedy Buffalo
At our local vintage club meeting tonight, an interesting tidbit of info came to light. A visitor from Red Deer, who is a Bonneville junky, and holder of a couple of speed records with his trusty Suzuki 'Busa, alighted to the fact that our man Brett in OZ, has set an all time record in the 1000 cc Fuel class, on his mighty water buffalo. Get this.... 232 mph, average two way speed. Apparently, his GPS recorded occasional spurts to 240 mph. Holy C--p!! Thats movin. He has to run in the Fuel class, because he uses Methanol to keep his slightly modified engine alive at those speeds. WOW, 232 mph. Thats impressive!! Thought you might like to know. Cheers.

Just for clarity, this happened on Lake Gairdner in Australia and not at Bonneville. The details are here (he is entry 509), and there is a news article from a local paper here with a photo of Brett.
Also - a 'Maraylyan' is someone who lives in Maraylya, which is an area just outside of Sydney.

That's impressive and impressive He's not impressed about it! Did I say that right?
All on a 2-stroke Buffalo at that.
Who had photos of the bike before that were on here?

That's pretty fast for a Buffalo.....in fact it's probably the world's fastest Buffalo, I'll bet. I think there's a movie in there somewhere.....
Way to go, Aussies.

Well, TZ if the FIM had been there and confirmed the speed it would have been a world record.....regardless of what any US "body" might have thought.(but not ratified by the US body, so it's not an official world record)
I wonder if the FIM was there ?? Anyone know one way or the other ??

Interesting question - the DLRA is a registered association operating under the same basic rules as the SCTA used at Bonneville, but I don't know whether the 2010 event actually was a FIA or FIM sanctioned event. Not sure it really matters - damn quick is damn quick no matter how you slice it.H2RICK wrote:Well, TZ if the FIM had been there and confirmed the speed it would have been a world record.....regardless of what any US "body" might have thought.(but not ratified by the US body, so it's not an official world record)

Rick, good point. i was a little loose with my words there. You are correct that the record needs to be recognized by a world body FIM? and IIRC they were not at Lake Gardiner in March to ratify results. I don't know if they run to the same rules in terms of percentage differences or time before back up run etc.
Bonneville I believe tends to have the appropriate world authority there to ratify results AKAIK.
The point being that it's still the fastest GT750 on the planet by a large margin. that's a heck of an accomplishment in any language.

To my recollection, the record broken was for normally aspirated 1000 cc motorcycles. Brett went 10+ mph over the old record. That alone is amazing, in this age of mili-seconds. And his non-chalance over the whole affair, makes it all the more enjoyable. And it's a Suzuki two stroke. What could be better! Cheers.

So the next loudmouth Gixxer thou rider who says he's got the fastest litre bike on the planet will get a firm "NO" from me. I'll tell him that, yes, the fastest naturally aspirated litre bike IS a Suzi.....but a 35 year old Suzi !!!

Imagine the looks THAT revelation will get......
