T500 oil pump leak

Post by Monkey man »

Hi guys

I thought I was over the problem of 2 stroke oil lying on top of the crankcase after having replaced the crush washers feeding the oil pipes to the barrels etc

However after removing the carbs I noticed oil was once again ponding on top of the crankcase and appears to be coming from where the rev cable joins the oil pump

In fact I see red 2 stroke on top of the screw fitting that secures the cable down into the oil pump

Is it possible or likely that 2 stroke oil is surging up the oil pump at this junction

I’m absolutely sure it’s not from the 2 stroke tank itself

Any advice or thoughts are welcome

I would say yes. My 75 T500 had a leak from oil pump that left a puddle on the crankcase and floor under.I replaced all the o rings and seals with a kit from a member from Canada who sold on eBay. If you replace seals, don't skip the one between the pump and the gearbox, my T250 filled the gearbox with 2 stroke oil when that seal went bad.
I am not sure he sells the kit anymore, I do see a seller in Germany has a kit listed.

Hi guys - just an update and thankfully the leak is cured .

I took off the pump and replaced top and bottom seals ensuring they were fitted the correct way up (seal facing fluid to be retained )

Put pump back on and re-filled oil tank two weeks ago and all is dry - no more oil lying on top of the crankcase and seeping onto garage floor

Thanks for all the advice
