Can I ask why the kill switch wire goes to the ignition??? Is that to ground the system when you turn off the key rather than turn on power as I’d thought???

I could ask why these systems aren’t made idiot-proof but I guess I wasn’t available when Mr Suzuki was looking for one :)
Hi MalkyB,

In a nutshell, Yes. The PEI receives NO 12v power input. It is a self-generating ignition, like many race ignitions. If you were building a race bike you could strip all the 12v electrics and the bike will run fine. If you look at the ignition s/w on the circuit diagram you will see the Black/Yellow which comes from the PEI is grounded when the s/w is in the off position. Follow the Black/Yellow wire to the Kill s/w and you will see it also simply grounds the PEI.

Cheers Geoff

Re: GT500 no spark - possible kill switch issue...FIXED!!!

Many thanks to everyone that helped....
I ordered a NOS rotor from Ebay (amazingly I ordered it Sunday and arrived today Tuesday). The magnets were so strong they almost tore my fingers off when I offered it up to the flywheel which made me hopeful....
Turned the rotor with the plugs out and resting on the heads - the shock of seeing the sparks was truly awesome!!!!!
All fixed!
By now I have the newest most reliable ignition on the bike since it was new with coils, plugs, CDI, exciter coil and ROTOR!!!!
HOORAY!!!! :D

Nice one Malky, good to see you have it sorted  .

I will admit that weak magnets were not my first thoughts with your GT500 ign. However I'll stash that knowledge away for the future.

Hopefully this may help someone else out in a bind.

I would have thought it almost impossible for the new rotor to fix the problem as to my mind the original rotor seemed pretty magnetty to me.

But....that’s what it was.

I must admit I had my doubts about the magnets, but glad to hear it worked.
