+1 on that. You may have switched around the carbs.
The early GT750s with VM have 2 right & 1 left carb. A right carb is used in the middle.
For the original locations, look at the carb part # stamped on the flat surface near the choke. It ends with “L”, “M”, or “R”. The middle & right carbs had slightly different jetting so the part #s are different.

On the stock BS40 carbs the mixture screw for the right carb is on the right side of the carb.
