Hmm. I doubt that would work.
Better to tell her they must be removed as it would a fashion calamity to leave them on. Explain how others might ridicule her if not.
If that doesn't work, tell her that it would be a crime to nature to leave them on. Elaborate by saying that lots of puppy's have been killed chasing after bikes with sissy bars because they mistakenly think it is the wagging tail of a much larger dog. This effect is considerably exaggerated when the sissy bar is accompanied by a large pair of handle bars that look a bit like a set of doggy ears. "Darling, can you imagine seeing in your mirrors that poor little dog being run over by a following juggernaut? You'd never forgive yourself!"
