Master cylinder refurbishment

I've started stripping the GT 185 down and am wondering about refurbishing the master cylinder. Does anyone have a guide on how to do it? I've mislaid my haynes manual and just thought someone might have a link to a step by step guide ?

For instance how does the reservoir come aprt from the casting..... or indeed, does it??!

Most suzuki gt master cylinder are similar,the reservoir is held in by 2 screws inside reservoir,an o ring between plastic and casting,can be quite snug and take some force to separate and reassemble.Plunger is held in with snap ring behind rubber boot.One important step is to make sure the little holes between plunger and reservoir are open to release pressure from line,otherwise you may be along the side of the road with a locked brake,I learned the hard way.

I've undone the 2 screws but the metal plate is not moving; does it just pull out followed by the plastic reservoir ?

It should. Bear in mind that the reservoir IS plastic and likely brittle, but some gentle but insistent side-to-side tapping with a tool may pop it loose.

Remove the reservoir with the metal plate still in it, then turn it upside down and tap it on a bench top to drop the metal plate out.

If it's REALLY cruddy, a little penetrating oil (PB Blaster or the like) should work under it and let it come loose.

Getting the reservoir off once the screws are out: try turning it by hand, hard.
