Need to identify my GT380 model

Post by Mikey GT380 »

Hey!
I'm new here. Had a GT380 project bike for almost 20 years and now is the time to start work on it!
Can anyone please help me identify exactly which model it is?

Hi and welcome - if you've had the bike for 20 years that's a big help in dating it accurately, as it's less likely to have been messed about by previous owners.

Don't be too surprised if you find some anomalies, however, Suzuki themselves would mix & match some parts between models, especially at the changeover between model years. So don't get too hung up on stuff like whether the front mudguard should have one set of stays, or two ....

Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

Thanks for your help so far guys. I have located the frame and engine number sticker at the front of the steering head but it is mostly unreadable. I'm now in the process of cleaning the engine of accumulated dust and oil to try and locate the engine number. Any clues as to where exactly it is written?
Thanks. :-)

On my 550 its on the top of the front engine mount, right below the jugs.

There's also a number stamped into the steering neck on the right front as you sit on the bike.

Thanks for your help, everyone.
It seems that I have a GT380L frame with a GT380M engine!
