I know this site is for Suzukis but i wondered whether anyone had any information about Kawasaki bikes. I have a Kawasaki A1 250 Samurai 1967, I will be rebuilding the engine soon and I have noticed that there are no dowel pins or holes for dowels to stop the outer race of the crank shaft main bearings from turning. Is this a common thing on early Suzuki's and if so is there anything to worry about or should I be thinking about maybe some locktite or smear of 3 bond before closing up the casings to stop it moving. would welcome peoples comments on this
thanks

Re: crank shaft main bearing dowel pins
Not totally sure on this, but
The Suzuki main bearings are doweled because they have an oil hole in the outer race which needs to align with the CCI oil holes in the crankcase (oil from gear box for centre bearing). The Kawasaki uses oil injected into the inlet track so does not need this critical alignment. Not a bad idea to use a bit of Bearing Fit Loctite (or similar) for back-up as a rotating outer race isn't a good thing.
Well that's my 2 cents (I hope it is worth it)
Cheers Geoff

Re: crank shaft main bearing dowel pins
Kawasaki had not put any bit of bearing on his cranck bearing... neither on H1 or H2 motors.
Sure, if you add them (like on 350 RZ), it will be better.
Run out if often too big and external bush bearing turn into the cranckcase.
We can also think that before 9/10000 rpm bearing don"t turn into cranckshaft... it is perhaps the (wrong) reason why most of Banshee cranckshaft (wiseco, hot rod, wsm, vito...) have no bit bearing but only oring
