Suggestions?

Post by Coyote »

Careful now  This short ground wire needs a home. One end attaches to the coil mount bolt. This end is supposed to mount to the shroud halves at the forward bolt. I am not using the shroud and I need to do something with this open end. There are no tapped holes close by (3 1/2 inches). So any suggestions for something that won't look like crap?
I should note that everything works without this wire attached. Should I just tuck it away and forget it? It is an OEM part and it's supposed to be hooked up. I don't really know why. I mean the braided ground strap goes from the battery neg. directly to the motor. Can't ask for a better ground. I don't understand the real purpose of this one.

My guess is it is to ground the shrouds. No shrouds == No need to ground them. Tuck it away, out of sight.

Just curious, but why no shrouds?

Lane
If you stroke it more than twice; you're playing with it.

Too many bikes, too much time, ENOUGH SPACE, FINALLY! Never enough money.........

I would just have to take the shrouds back off to re-torque the head bolts after running a while. That's reason 1. Reason 2 is to me the shrouds are a gimmick and do more harm than good - heavy traffic, hot day they trap more heat than would normally dissipate. Reason 3 is you have to remove them if you want to use a dial indicator for timing. Reason 4 is I don't think it looks bad without them.
I may put them on later, but not now.

Oh yes...air bags were a gimmick...now law in most civilised nations ! think manufactures know what they are doing, air flow rather important with a two stroke, unlike air cooled four strokes that dissipate at least 65% of their heat through the engine oil :) I've never know a two stroke to seize sitting in traffic, but I do know that both 2 & 4 stroke air cooled motors can suffer badly with loss of power on extremely hot days ! Harleys included   sorry....with the exception of the V Rod,water cooled :D (thank you Mr Porsche)

If it is temporary and running OK then just tuck it away until the shrouds are back.
