GT750 Oil tank window question

Post by buffalodave »

This might sound stupid...But since Coyote forgot how the gas tank strap went on his bike (No insult...it just makes me feel not so bad  ). which way does that little metal piece go back inside the window? I know it is to allow oil into the site glass but it apparently can go either way...Could someone take a picture of one PLEASE?

Hard to tell now that there is some oil in it. The metal piece goes in the lower half, smooth side out. There is no retention. It just sits there. Honestly, I don't know why it's even there. Don't over tighten the window. I go as tight as I can with my fingers, then use a crescent wrench to turn it about 1/16 of a turn

Coyote,
There is a little 1/2 moon on that tiny thing is it on the top or bottom?
I think the metal things is there for contrast so you can see the oil level...I would assume the notch is on the bottom but just want to be sure. Thanks for the help!

Look at this link. Is there a slot on your tank for the 'leg' on the metal part to fit in to? It looks like mine is in that slot and pointed up. I don't know. It's really hard to tell with the current oil level. Maybe someone else will chime in.

OK. Look at this one. Rotate the metal piece 90 degrees counter clockwise and that's how it goes. The half moon cutout is for the oil return hole at the bottom of the window.

Coyote,
I figured it went that way but I figured I'd ask...see you are not the only one who "gives up" on a daily basis!
I unscrewed the window to clean/drain the tank and didn't pay too much attention to it and the damn thing fell out before I took a good look at it...
Thanks for the help!
