NEED HELP !!!!! Suzuki GT185
Hello guys this will be my first post cant believe I already need help. Anyway I have a 1974 gt185 that ive been rebuilding over the winter, I finally got everything together and got it to start and all that. Ive matched the notches of the oil pump to the notch on the right hand side carb and its pretty much all the tuning ive done to it so far besides getting it to idle nice, I took home las night from work and it ran great beside boggin a little at higher gears and it hated going up hill i would have to shift down a couple times to even get it up the hill by my house. Here is my problem, for some reason the right cylinder is still running colder than the left cylinder ( i can feel it by touching the exhust pipes) not to mention the left cylinder definetly smokes but the right hand side dosent as much as the left. i read a little about bleeding the oil pump but still dont understand exactly what i would have to do also i have not touched the timing at all so that might be an issue also, im going to take the carbs appart today again and clean them for the 50th time (exagerating but it has been a lot) also will be removing the oil pump because i saw a tiny leak coming from the bottom of the pump so ill take it out and clean that too and blow some air throught oil lines in hopes it helps, Ive been balls deep in the internet trying to find a service manual but still no luck. any help would be greatly appriciated and thanks in advance .

Re: NEED HELP !!!!! Suzuki GT185
My gut says oil is not the issue. If there is oil (and no air bubbles) in the oil lines, I would be looking other places.
Fuel and spark. If the right cylinder seems cold (compared to the left, how cold is cold?), it likely isn't running well.
Do you have a good spark (and compare to left cylinder's spark)? Correct spark plugs, and in good shape? Replace them anyway. Check the spark plug wire and cap. If not in great condition, you may want to get new caps, and trim the wire back a bit, and install new caps. I believe it is a PEI (electronic) ignition, so only timing needs to be checked.
How old/good is the fuel in the tank? If not fresh, replace it. Check air filter isn't clogged (you may want to take a quick ride without the filter element installed). Choke working correctly (and is all the way off when shut off)? What is the general condition of the carbs?
Usually low power and lethargic is a too rich mixture, misfiring, or retarded timing.

Just for giggles, check the compression. You can borrow a compression tester if you don't have one, but avoid cheap Harbor Freight testers - they have a huge failure rate.

Re: NEED HELP !!!!! Suzuki GT185
everything in the motor is brand new from seals to the pistons and rings, the fuel is new just filled it last night before i took it home and the plugs i changed twice last night thinking i fouled one i just changed them both. the plugs are nothng special they are just the NGK stock plugs. when i say the cylinder is cold i mean its definetly colder than the other its still warm but not HOT like the other pipe. as for air in the lines of the oil pump i have no clue how to bleed the pump so having air in the lines is a possible

^ Shop manual link. Thanks to Ian (member on this board) for having this on his site.
Might want to check gas flow into your carbs. Check the sediment bowl on the petcock. If there is not enough gas flow, the left carb will receive most of it and starve the right. I've dealt with this on mine.

In fact, drain the tank, remove the petcock and take it apart and thoroughly clean it. Mine was full of sediment and rust. The reserve side was totally clogged.

Re: NEED HELP !!!!! Suzuki GT185
DO NOT use compressed air on your oil lines. It ruins the check valves
Sounds to me like the right is not running at all. The heat you feel might be transferred from the left. With it running, pull the right plug wire off. If there is no change, that cylinder is not running at all. You can also feel the exhaust coming out of the mufflers. Both should be equally warm. I don't know anything about the 185. Is it possible a ring is in upside down?. A compression test should give you a clue.

Re: NEED HELP !!!!! Suzuki GT185
After I clean the lines on the oil pump how do I go about bleeding the pump to remove the air from the lines?
@coyote noted not to use compressed air on the lines thanks I almost did it that way ... what would be the best way to clean them . I will also double check if the right cylinder is running at all. Thanks . As for the rings the guy who rebuilt the motor builds race cars and race bikes I can only hope he didn't make a dumb mistake like that .

Re: NEED HELP !!!!! Suzuki GT185
The easiest way to flush the oil lines is use a pump type oil can or syringe with regular rubbing alcohol. Use the same method to prime the lines with oil before mounting.Work from the plastic base, flushing toward the motor. It may be necessary to grind or file the oil can / syringe tip to fit the tiny holes in the plastic base. Then fill the lines with 2-stroke oil before mounting the pump. There should be a bleed screw on the pump (not familiar). If not, loosen the banjo bolt where the line from the tank enters the pump till oil flows. That's about all you can do. There will still be some small air bubbles but little ones won't hurt anything. They also help to see if the oil is moving through the lines.. Watch the line carefully as the oil moves very slowly.
In case I wasn't clear, remove the lines from the motor before flushing. It's much easier when you're holding the whole mess in your hands
