Muffler assembly question GT550

Post by Coyote »

I can't seem to land my son to help, so I am going to attempt to do this by myself. I'm just a little confused as to what the order is. Do I mount the outer ones first amd make the front junction and then follow with the inners? Or do I put the inner ones on first. Logic tells me to put the outers on first because they are first on the hanger bolt, but the inners would be easier to deal with because the outers are not in the way. What's the easiest way?

I put the centres on last. Make sure the clamps at the front are assembled the right way round with the red rubber seal clean and lightly lube, the clamp nice and loose, a clean and lightly lubed centre pipe with slide on easily, slip the outer rear bolt out a bit and offer up the centre hanger, bolt home, clamp done up, job done.
Cheers,
Mike
ps: all my GTs are later ones without the pesky cross pieces at the front. They look tricky, eh Alan!

You UK guys were lucky in that respect. ALL the GT550's in the US had / have crossovers. All years. They (the crossovers) suck.. They were dropped from the 750's in the later models, but the 550 kept them throughout US production.
